Pentecost

Pentecost

The holiday commemorates the descent of the Holy Spirit. According to the old custom, a very strong beer was brewed for this day, called "Pentecostal", and during the ceremony, the beer king and queen were elected. They constituted their entourage: servant, armed knight, knight with a mace and a jester. There was a lot of feasting and dancing. The traditional dish was lamb roast.

An old adage comes from this period: “If you eat gooseberries at Pentecost, for the next month you will not make a fool of yourself ". Hence the taste of the wine so eagerly eaten on this day.
