Young people must report to the Registry Office at least 31 days before the planned wedding date - the presence of both spouses is obligatory.

The couple completes a written declaration that there are no obstacles to getting married. He decides what surnames they and their children will have after the wedding.

A stamp duty in the amount of PLN 80 is payable.

Documents needed:

  • ID card
  • Shortened copy of the birth certificate
  • Brief description of the marriage certificate, with a notice of divorce necessary (dot. Divorced people)
  • Shortened copy of the death certificate of the previous spouse (dot. Widowers).

Formalities related to a church wedding

A couple should report to the office at approx 6 months before the planned date of marriage.

Documents needed:

Baptism records with information about the sacrament of Confirmation

On 3 months before the wedding date, a pre-wedding protocol is drawn up at the parish office. Documents are needed at this time:

Certificate of the teachings of religion

Certificate from the Registry Office confirming the absence of any circumstances, which may exclude getting married

After writing down the pre-wedding protocol, the young people should proceed to the first of the two sacraments of confession and penance, the confirmation of which we submit to the priest.

Remember to hold the Pre-Marriage Meetings, which are mandatory.

A week before the wedding date, we go to the parish office, this time we are accompanied by witnesses. During this meeting, we must submit further documents and certificates:

Identity Cards

Certificate of completion of premarital studies with a note about the meetings at the family clinic

Certificate of Sunday announcements.

Witnesses provide only ID cards

In situation, when the witness cannot appear at the parish office, the young can provide the relevant data to the priest ( name, last name, address, year of birth, profession, confession).

A wedding with a foreigner

In order for a foreigner to marry in Poland, he must provide:

Passport

Birth certificate translated by a sworn translator

Legal certificate of fitness to marry - can be obtained from the embassy of your country

Some countries do not issue such a certificate, then you should apply to the family court for permission to enter into a marriage without a certificate - consent is waited until 3 months - must be translated by a sworn translator.

A Pole abroad may get married at a foreign Registry Office or in front of a Polish consul, must provide a certificate of legal capacity to marry abroad.
